New Teacher: Mr. Jacob Ducey

New Teacher: Mr. Jacob Ducey

Kelsie V.

A new eagle has arrived at Cope, Mr. Jacob Ducey! I recently had  the opportunity to interview him. He is very excited to be here at Cope and we are very excited to meet him.

Mr. Ducey has been teaching since 2012, and has been a 4th grade teacher for 6 of those years in a school called Sacred Heart Academy. The other 6 years he has been a substitute. This year he will be teaching 6th, 7th, and 8th grade as a physical education teacher. When asked about what inspired him to become a teacher, he replied, “ My first week experiencing middle school P.E. as a student in the year 2000 at Moore Middle School is what inspired me most to be a P.E. teacher. I love athletics and I love to teach, so when I first got exposed to middle school P.E. I loved everything about it as a student.”

Mr. Ducey doesn’t just love teaching, he has many other hobbies as well. His favorite things to do include playing basketball, camping, surfing, traveling, and hanging out with his family and friends. If he had not become a teacher, he would have wanted to become a basketball coach. Mr. Ducey has been all around the globe, but Redlands is still his favorite place to be. Home really is where the heart is. Another question presented to Mr. Ducey is what he likes best about teaching. He answered, “ The thing that I enjoy most about teaching is watching people get better themselves and improve overtime.  Progression occurs at different rates from person to person, but all people can improve no matter what, so I enjoy inspiring people to become their best and the best part about teaching for me is when individuals buy in.”

When asked if there’s anything special he would like us Cope Eagles to know, Mr, Ducey says that his mother and all her siblings went to Cope in the 1960’s and 70’s. We welcome him to Cope! P.E. will surely be a delight with Mr. Ducey taking flight!
