Cope Students Make It to State Round in Math Competition

Marlon M., Staff Writer

Last Saturday, 10 Cope students from the Cope Math club participated in a nationwide competition at the Chapter level. The Cope team, consisting of Amanda Liu, Ellie Zhang, Marlon Moenius, and Leonardo Sgambelluri, placed second in this competition and will move on to the state level. Cope Mathletes Julia Tolstova, Nikita Jos,  Ryan Shagiakhmetov, Haiyang Goa, Abhisiri Narayan, and Edric Wood also competed as individual competitors. Advisor Mrs. Devi and Coaches James Yang and Ethan Jan accompanied these students to Cal Baptist University, where the competition took place. Every Thursday after school, students and coaches meet up in M-52 to learn and discuss advanced math and prepare for the competition. When competitor Ellie Zhang was asked about the experience, she said,” I’m happy because we prepared a lot.” She also mentioned, “Math is fun for me-it comes naturally.” These Cope Mathletes did phenomenally well, and they will continue their preparations for the state level.
