Featured Book of the Month

This month’s F.B.O.T.M. is a personal favorite of mine. I stumbled upon it scrolling through Goodreads, and the second I opened it, I was immersed. I read Rebel of the Sands, by Alwyn Hamilton, in only a couple sittings, not because it’s short, but because it’s hard to tear yourself away. The story is invigorating, and the characters even better.

Readers follow along through the perspective of sixteen-year-old gunslinger and sharpshooter Amani Al’Hiza. Growing up an orphan and living with her aunt, uncle, and cousins in the small village of Dustwalk, she seeks to explore the wide expands of the desert. In an attempt to escape, she enters a sharpshooting contest under an alias. When she comes close to winning, Amani figures out that the contest is a hoax and is rigged to win the house money. She temporarily allies with another final competitor under the need of survival, and they manage to escape, but at what cost?

I was hooked from beginning to end when reading this book, and I recommend you skim through at least the first chapter. You won’t regret it.
