Over a year ago, when all of us were wishing each other a Happy New Year, none of us expected 2020 to turn out like this. In fact, there are many words that can be used to describe 2020 and how we felt about it: stressful, hectic, isolated, among hundreds of others. Many of us don’t even know how to feel. For reflection and the possibility to reminisce about last year, here is a list that we compiled of the most important events of 2020. 

January: 

2: Wildfires in Australia start that ended up burning over 46 million acres of land by the end of the fire season. 

16: Senate starts impeachment trial of President Trump.

26: Kobe Bryant, former NBA star, dies in a helicopter crash.

31: Brexit is ratified by parliament.

February:

6: The first COVID-19 related death happens in America.

March:

11: The WHO declares COVID-19 a pandemic.

April:

2:  COVID-19 cases reach 1 million worldwide

May:

Entirety: Asian Giant Hornets, also known as the “Murder Hornet” first arrives in America.

6: Distance learning begins

25: George Floyd is killed by police officer Derek Chauvin, allowing the Black Lives Matter movement to reignite.

30: Elon Musk’s SpaceX launches astronauts Bob Behnken and Doug Hurley to the International Space Station.

June:

28: COVID-19 cases reach 10-million worldwide.

August:

15: California wildfires start

28: Chadwick Boseman, most famously known for his role as Black Panther in the Academy-Award winning movie “Black Panther”, dies from colon cancer.

September:

18: Ruth Bader Ginsburg, former Supreme Court Justice, dies from pancreatic cancer.

October:

26: President Donal Trump nominates Amy Coney Barett as Supreme Court Justice.

November:

7: Democratic Candidate Joe Biden wins the electoral college.

December:

Entirety: Families ended the year off in a way that was never celebrated alone. Zoom meetings were the only way to socialize with family and friends.
