Soul Movie Review

On Christmas Day, 2020, the new Disney/Pixar movie, Soul, was released. It’s a new animated family film directed by Pete Docter and Kemp Powers. The star of the movie, a middle school band teacher named Joe Gardner (voiced by Jamie Foxx), falls into the sewers just before his big break as a jazz musician, and his soul is disconnected from his body. The plot of the movie follows Joe Gardner in his quest to reunite his soul and body.

Critics call Soul “some of the most striking works that Pixar has ever turned in”. Soul has many different themes and messages, such as “Don’t take life for granted”, but the overall message can be summed up as “Don’t get so hung up on ambition that you forget to stop and smell the flowers”.

One inspirational quote from Soul, “Life is full of possibilities. You just need to know where to look. Don’t miss out on the joys of life.”, is a direct message to the watcher. Overall, Soul is a great comedy film to watch with the entire family; you can watch Soul on Disney+.
