Trump Downplays COVID

Recently, President Trump announced that he and the First Lady have tested positive with COIVD-19. He was treated at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Here, he was treated with Remdesivir, as well as an experimental antibody treatment. He claims to be feeling better, whereas doctors treating him say he, “isn’t out of the woods.” Clearly, since he spent only three nights in the hospital.

President Trump has downplayed coronavirus ever since it became a major concern. For example, upon returning from the hospital, he took off his mask, waved to the crowd, and then went inside the White House. Additionally, before the Presidential Debate, he mocked Joe Biden for wearing a mask. “Every time you see him, he’s got a mask. He could be speaking 200 feet away from them, and he shows up with the biggest mask I’ve ever seen,” he said at the Debate in Ohio. Maybe it’s karma since soon after, he was diagnosed with COVID.

Our president is often seen without a mask, mocking those wearing masks, and downplaying the danger posed by coronavirus. Probably the most interesting thing he’s done was suggesting people should inject bleach and Lysol into themselves. President Trump says that he downplays coronavirus because he doesn’t want to “scare people.”

The president’s behavior has been concerning to many especially when one considers the safety of those working beside the president. His lack of protection may have led to him getting COVID and led to him exposing others in the White House -including the press secretary, two West Wing aides, and his own wife. As of this date, thirty-four members of the White House staff have contracted the virus.
