In light of Disney+’s recent announcement that the Percy Jackson books will be adapted to a show, I decided to make this month’s F.B.O.T.M. another one of Riordan’s works: Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Sword of Summer. I began reading this series when it first came out, back in October of 2015. Since then, three more books have come out in the series, as well as a fourth. That means that if this first book caught your attention, you can stay in the universe of Magnus Chase for another four more books!

The readers are first introduced to Magnus Chase, the 16-year-old demigod and homeless orphan that narrates the story. Living on the streets of Boston for two years, Magnus is doing all he can to survive and avoid any potentially troublesome authorities. It’s only when he’s re-introduced to his mother’s brother, Uncle Randolph, that his entire life begins to make sense… and fall apart. The things the old man is saying, gods of, what was that, Asgard? And Doomsday? That couldn’t be real… right?

The Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard series is a must-read. The story takes incredible twists and turns, with exciting characters and scenes–Riordan has much to be proud of. After all, who doesn’t love a good falafel?
