This Wednesday, March 4th, Cope Advanced Band and Advanced Orchestra went to Redlands High School to participate in a musical festival in which three judges ranked their performances. The ranks were “No Comment” as the lowest, “Fair”, “Excellent”, “Superior”, and “Unanimous Superior” as the highest. In order to get “Unanimous Superior”, all the three judges must give the “Superior” score, and perfomers must also receive a “Superior” score from the sightreading supervisor they visit after their initial performance. The band played Canticle by Bruce Pearson, An English Celebration by James Swearingen, and Cumberland Cross by Carl Strommen. The orchestra played Sinfonia in D Major, I. Allegro Assai by Johann Christian Bach, Fantasia on “The Water is Wide” by Mark Barnard, and “Fantasia on a Theme from Thailand,” by Richard Meyer.
