Chicago: Colder Than the South Pole?

Lorelei A., Staff Writer

Yes, it’s true. Chicago is, in fact, colder than the opposite of Santa’s workshop. On Wednesday, January 30th, and a short while in the morning of Thursday, the “Windy City” reached temperatures of -30 degrees, beating Chicago’s previously unrivaled coldest temperature of 27 degrees below zero. To put that into perspective, the South Pole ranges between 25 and 27 degrees below zero as well at present time. It wasn’t all just cold weather, though. State emergency was called and, unfortunately, 8 lives were lost. Chicago is still recovering but is now 30 degreesĀ above zero.
