As many a Redlands-er already knows, the theme of this year’s Christmas parade is “A Citrus Heritage Christmas”. The Christmas parade has always been a very large part of the Redlands community, with schools and organizations (and other companies) joining in on the festivities and fun. This year’s theme clearly represents the importance that citrus has brought upon Redlands, and that citrus has played a big role in creating the community of Redlands.

One of the main reasons Redlands was visited by a lot of tourists and such was, in large, because of the navel orange and the city’s weather. Many tourists from Chicago, Illinois used to come down to Redlands during the winter since it remained warm, even through the winter, while it rained and poured in Chicago. Citrus was, and still is, a big part of Redlands for the fact that, because there are a lot of orange groves still in Redlands, a lot of the income for people and the city came from the citrus. Without the orange groves, Redlands would probably not have been as popular as it was, and probably not have developed as well, city-wise. Nowadays, the orange groves of Redlands reminds Redlanders of the always-present image of the past life-style in this city.
