Friday, March 13, 2021, is the anniversary of the final day we had in-person in 2020. This marks day 365 of quarantine. For the last year, we have been stuck in our homes, unable to go places. Counting the months, weeks, days, hours, minutes, and seconds. Video games, books, movies, sitcoms, occasional exercise, and anime (writer’s choice) are the only things that manage to keep us entertained. However, the year that passed had its fair share of interesting events, whether it may be politics, the stock market, or a movement. Here are some of those events that occurred during quarantine.

We start first with the stock market crash in March 2020 and then the recent GameStop blow up in January. In March, the entire worldwide economy crashed as quarantine started. The mightiest stocks wavered, and people began investing like crazy. Such investments led to the GameStop stock skyrocketing in January. Between the 12th and 26th of January, Gamestop rocketed up from 19 dollars to a whopping 347 dollars. People who had invested into the stock instantly gained thousands of dollars, and some people became millionaires. Another drastic stock market crash to increase was the Dow Jones stock. In March, the stock massively tanked from 29 thousand to 19 thousand dollars, suffering a net loss of about 10 thousand. In the past year, it has risen to 32 thousand dollars, meaning that in the last year, Dow Jones increased by 13 thousand dollars. That is essentially all that happened in the stock market, leading us to the next event.

The next event is the BLM movement that rocked the nation in the months of May through August. It started with the death of George Floyd, whose death shone a light on the previous accounts of police brutality. The movements included protestors who walked through streets, protesting with signs, chanting things like “Black lives matter” and “Justice to George Floyd”. The protests continued on until August 2020, where they finally simmered down.

The final event is the impeachment of Donald Trump in 2019-2020. Trump was technically impeached, but due the senate vote not being ⅔, the president was not officially impeached. However, in 2021, Trump was impeached again in yet another impeachment trial. Donald Trump served his full term, but he was not re-elected.

To recap, some major events that took place in quarantine were the stock market, the BLM movement, and the impeachment of Donald Trump. That’s it for the quarantine anniversary! I hope you enjoyed it, and make sure you wear your mask.
