Pride and Prejudice is a novel written by Jane Austen in 1797. It is considered a classic and has multiple movies made off of it. I finished reading it a while ago, and have decided that it’s a book everyone should read.
Pride and Prejudice is the love story between Elizabeth Bennet-whose mother is persistently trying to marry off her five daughters- and Fitzwilliam Darcy -whose pride makes him unlikable. It’s also a story about wealthy social life; the balls, the drama, and, basically, what it was like to be a woman at that time. Don’t let the density of the book or its old English frighten you off- the most amusing part of the book was reading how subtly and sophisticatedly the characters insulted each other!
There have been seventeen different movies made about the novel. I watched the one from 2005 on Peacock and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was probably the only movie that remained true to the book it was made after. As a bookworm, I was very happy that it kept crucial scenes, characters, and personalities. Not only that but it was also aesthetically pleasing. It’s 2 hours and 15 minutes long and rated PG. I recommend that you watch it after reading the book, as you will have a better understanding of what’s going on.
Overall, anyone who likes books and is an avid reader will enjoy reading Pride and Prejudice!
